Thank You Card

Darlene here!

Here is a card I had created for my sister. I used a digi stamp by Sassy Cheryl Stamps called Driving Miss Maddie. I just love all the wonderful characters she has created. Each week, I find myself patiently waiting for that new blog post of what new creations she has come up with.

This card measures 4.25" x 5 1/2". I used dark gray cardstock as my base. The fun patterned papers are from K & Co. I used some gray and white twine to hold a thank you tag. Copics were the perfect choice to color my image.

Corkboard - The Big Reveal!

Good Morning, Virginia here with good news for those waiting to see my completed corkboard project.   I am sure most of you know how our family and work priorities sometimes get in the way of our fun!    I appreciate your patience as a lot of miles have been traveled in my household since I started the project.    Several trips to the beautiful town of Northeast, Maryland for me to get my son there and back for boy scout camp.   If that were not enough my husband has just returned from a week in Saudi Arabia.   We are all home this weekend and then I am off to St. Petersburg, Florida next weekend for an HSN show for Martha Stewart Crafts on August 5th.   I will be with my fellow Crafting Journals blogger, Lenore.

Here is the link to the first part of my Corkboard project.    I had so much fun finishing it on Friday night when I had two hours to myself.     I decided to finish posting the project in a photo video collage. You can easily pause it if you are trying to follow along.   Here it is:

Here is my big reveal of my bright and fun finished corkboard:

Now to decide whether to put it in my craft space or in my kitchen.    If you decide to make a corkboard please feel free to post a picture on The Crafting Journals Facebook page.

P.S.  If you notice I ended up not using the Gelatos on this project.   I have other plans for those Gelatos.   Hopefully I will have something to post using them in the future.  :)   Vi

Keep it Simple Sketch

Hello everyone!

It's Darlene with a fun take on a simple sketch idea. Here's a quick and easy way to create 2 different layouts utilizing the same sketch.  Choosing 3 photos of the same theme mat them onto paper or cardstock. Repeat this on two more layers of coordinating patterned papers. Once layers are completed adhere to cardstock base.

Layout #1 is using the sketch below as is while Layout #2 is rotated 90 degrees (title placement was also moved to the other side of the layout.)

Hi friends!

Cindy here and I have a cute little mini book idea to share with you today. I created it awhile back in honor of Girls Scouts Month but it can be accommodated for other uses.

I’m going to give you step-by-step instructions on how I made it into a cute address book. What a great craft project this would be for a group, as well as a one-on-one with your favorite scout. If you don’t have a scout, simply change the title or even change the format to a monthly calendar. Ready?

1.     Gather supplies: standard 8.5” x 11” lined note pad, ABC flash cards, office double hole punch, Xyron 500 (or other adhesive), 1” circle punch, alphabet sticker sheet, 1 sheet each of patterned paper & solid cardstock, scissors, stapler, two binder rings, assorted ribbon

2.     Flash card decks come with more than 26 cards, so to create the front cover of the address book, run one non-ABC card through a Xyron 500 (or use your favorite adhesive), adhere patterned paper and trim. Run through again to similarly cover the other side. Repeat with another card to create back cover. Computer generate title in a text box, cut out and adhere to front cover.

3.     Punch out 26 – 1” circles from light cardstock and adhere to ABC flash cards with stapler, using a step pattern. Add lower case alpha stickers to circles for each card, as appropriate.

4.     Cut six 2.75” x 4.5” panels from one note pad sheet. (I found a rainbow pad at an office supply store.) Repeat with four more sheets for a total of 30 pieces. Use office double hole punch on front cover, back cover, alpha cards and note paper panels. Assemble book, alternating note paper between alpha cards (adding extra blank pages at the end). Bind with rings. Tie assorted ribbon snips to rings.

I hope you have fun with this project. We'd love to hear from you either in the comments section or on our Facebook page. Thanks for dropping by and...

Feel Better Soon- Card

Hey Everyone,

Anna here from St@mpAnna Designs.

Today I am going to share with you a card I made.  This sort-of just fell into place.  :)

I hope you like it.

My boss was away at my "other" job and I took some stamps and my copics to work with me.  I brought them with me for 3 days and finally on Friday I actually colored a little bit.  I find coloring a little therapeutic, as I am sure many of you do too.

Here is how I made the card.  The card measures approximatly 3 1/2 wide x 5 inches high.  This image is from one of my most favorite companies: Whipper Snapper Designs.  The stamp is called "Sunflower Pitcher".  I stamped the image on white cardstock with Momento Tuxedo Black Ink.

The colors of Copic markers I used are:
cool grey:  C1, C3 & C5
Yellow:  Y32, Y35, & Y38
Brown:  E01, E13, E19
Green:  YG03, YG06, YG09
Purple:  BV00,  BV01,  BV04
and I also used Colorless Blender when needed.
After the image was colored, I cut it out with a tiny white border all around.

For the card itself:  I stamped with Hero Arts "Friend Definition" background stamp.  Inked it up with my Pool Party Ink pad by Stampin Up.  Stamped off and then stamped on my card for a muted look.  Took some pattern paper along the left side with a tiny strip of green card stock to give it more of a FINISH look.  I used my corner chomper by WRMK and corner rounded the corners on the right side of the card.  I softened up the card a little with some yellow ink around the edges of the card with a sponge.  Next, I stamped the Sentiment "Feel Better Soon" from Stampin' Up Hostess Set called Express Yourself on scrap white paper and cut out to look like a pennant.  I inked the edges with yellow ink. Glued down the sentiment to the card about 3/4 of an inch from the bottom of the card.   I laced the button with some twine, tied in a bow and then adhered the button down with glue dot. Put some pop dots on the image and adhered above the sentiment. After I finished the card, I felt like it needed a little something else.  So I took my Clear Wink of Stella, Glitter pen by Zig and went over the center of the sunflowers to add a little bling.  I am not sure you can see it in the picture but in real life it is so cute.

Here is a close up of the coloring.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I'll see you next time on the Blog.  :)

Home Decor Corkboard Project

I finally started my corkboard project that I posted on The Crafting Journals Facebook page this past weekend. I don’t want to rush this project so you will be seeing this project in stages. I am hoping to have it done by early next week. As we all know, life sometimes gets in the way of our well laid out plans. Please bear with me as I am also trying to make some deadlines for work, as well as pack up my son for a week of boy scout camp during a week of all star baseball games.

I opened my fabric and pulled out my rotary cutter and ruler. I layered all three of the solid fabrics together and cut them at once. I did press the fabric first to get creases out.

Here is what they looked like cut.

Lay the fabric on the inside of the corkboard and mark it with a pencil and ruler where you need to cut it to fit over the cork.

I took out the peel and stick tape so I can fold the fabric and get it ready to lay it into the center of the cork board.

I opened my yummy new Faber Castell Gelatos Kit and was impressed with the packaging and the instructions that were included in the box. Here is what you get in the kit.

Now I need to play with the Gelatos and decide if they will work on this project. I haven’t figured out where I am going to use them, but definitely want to try. I am thinking of coloring the white fabric with them, but that will require some experimenting and drying time-so we will see.

I should be able to squeeze in another hour Friday afternoon. I will post some more on this project as soon as I can!

If you are working on a project this week, please feel free to post photos on our Facebook page. I would love to see what you are doing!    Virginia

Have a Crafty Week!

Happy Independence Day!

Hi all,
Cindy here.
We're spending the holiday with family in Texas. Looking forward to a big ol' BBQ and fireworks show tonight.
I just wanted to relay a couple of pics that I instagrammed the other day. (You can find me at Instagram and Vine as "scrapcollectr".)
Backstory: I've starting taking a pile of journaling cards from Project Life kits with me when I travel. I figure that I might want to do a little journaling of pictures taken while away, while the memory is fresh. Then, I fret. But what if I want to combine my journaling on a big card? Do I really want a one picture/one journaling card approach? So I flounder. Then, while I was reading through various social media sites, I saw quotes that I liked and interesting passages from articles I was reading. And book suggestions. So, I decided that those lonely little cards that traveled with me here had a new purpose. I jot things down on them and figure that I will add them to a Project Life album here and there as another random decoration. I like that these notes won't be lost in the myriad of journals I buy for that purpose. They will be in albums that I expect to peruse from time to time.
So here they are. (I used cards from the Honey kit and Kraft kit, now available at many big box stores.)

If you haven't checked in recently, be sure to read Tracey's post below. She's got a great summer project for you!
Happy 4th and stay safe.

Summer Memory Canvas

Hello!  Tracey here this week with a little summer something that I hope will inspire you.  Summer is my favorite season and going to the beach or "down the shore" as we like to say in New Jersey, is my absolute favorite thing to do.  My family and I are also big sea glass collectors.  It becomes a contest to see who can find the most pieces and it can get a bit competitive.  My younger daughter and I are known for (gently) pushing each other aside to grab a piece.  : )

The memory canvas project I am sharing today is relatively simple.  It's something I've had in my head for a while and I was happy to finally sit down and do it.  It allowed me to use Tim Holtz distress paints, Heidi Swapp spray ink, and my favorite product du jour, twine.  I also used some older items in my stash which is always a good thing!  I am a texture girl so I had to add something to rough it up a bit... enter burlap and sanded photo edges!

To get started all you need is a canvas (I used 8x8), distress paints and rub ons, spray ink, twine, foam dots, phrases (I used Lil' Snippets:  Hello Summer by Elle's Studio), burlap, metal rimmed tag, letter stickers (I used K&Co.), sandpaper and a glue gun.
Paint your canvas using the distress paints and let it dry.  Spritz on a little spray ink and let that dry.

Trim down a piece of burlap (leave enough to wrap around) and adhere to the canvas.  I wrapped the burlap around the bottom and sides of the canvas and adhered to the back using hot glue.  Trim away excess with scissors.
Sand the edges of your photos and adhere the larger photo to the canvas using foam dots.  Tuck the smaller photo in next to it and adhere a phrase above it using foam dots.

Assemble and adhere the rest of the elements as shown.  In keeping with the theme of my memory canvas, I included an actual piece of blue sea glass on my tag.  Tip:  Be frugal with your twine and don't wrap it all the way around the canvas.  I used hot glue to adhere the ends on each side.
You can adapt this project to any season or occasion with different colors, textures, ephemera and fun scrapbook goodies you have in your stash to make your own custom memory canvas.  Make a few and hang them in a group!  Have fun and...
