How to Use a Paper Trimmer -- Scrapbook Video Saturday

Hi, Carla here with this week's video. Are you new to scrapbooking or card-making? One of the first tools you'll need is a paper trimmer. Before you buy one, check out today's video to see a couple of different types of trimmers. Then you can choose the type that's right for you.

It might seem to go without saying, but safety first! Always keep fingers away from the blade of your paper trimmer!

A Lucky Printable

Hey Everyone!

Elizabeth here and guess what? It's your lucky day!  Today's post will be quick ... I promise. Blink and you might miss it. Lol. Anywho, I'm trying something new so fingers crossed today is also my lucky day and that things will work out as planned.

Sure hope so. I have no Plan B.

Here's the backstory ... I needed an orange printable for my St. Patrick's Day bookshelf decor and soon discovered they were hard to find. Seems that green is the color of choice for "Lucky" themed prints ... who knew?

I bet you're asking, why orange? Well ... my ancestors were Protestant Irish, not Catholic Irish. For this reason, my mom always insisted we don the orange rather than the green (which btw made for some bruised forearms in grade school) thus my decor reflects that heritage. Plus ... orange is just yummy. Mmmm ... orange cream slushes from Sonic ... now that's some serious yummy ... but I digress ...

So since I was having no luck finding an orange printable, I decided to make one of my own.  And because I like you dear readers, I'm sharing it (hopefully) with you.

It's simple. It's basic. It's my first attempt. But hey, at least I figured out how to create it in two color schemes.  Yay me!

So if Plan A works, click on the image below that you would like to download and magically something should happen to allow you to do that.  If it doesn't, Plan B will involve some more research and stress eating ...

Oh ... I suppose you would like to know the size ... it should be 5x7 ... if it prints larger than that, consider it a "free gift with purchase" : ).

Chipboard Love

Hello everyone!

Do you love chipboard? I do.... I have this crazy addiction to chipboard. I love to add it to my scrapbook pages and cards and always have a large selection in my stash to choose from. My favorite chipboard in my stash is from Maya Road but there are lots of companies that have great designs available. You can always make your own using some plain chipboard sheets and your favorite dies or electronic die cutting machine.

Today's project is a wooden frame that is altered with small chipboard pieces to create design and texture on the frame. This is an inexpensive project as this frame can be found in your local craft store for a dollar or two.

Pick out a selection of chipboard pieces. Remember anything goes - you can make it as fun and whimsical with rainbows and clouds or elegant with scrolls and flourishes!

Use a strong glue to adhere the chipboard pieces to the front of your unpainted frame. I used Zip-Dry on mine but any strong adhesive is fine. Allow sufficient time to dry.

Once your chipboard is completely dry, paint with a base color. I chose a creamy antique white. Let paint dry completely.

Paint over with a creamy brown color paint. DO NOT allow this to dry - remove immediately with a rag leaving some paint in the grooves and edges to create an aged, worn look.

The frame is completely dry. Add your desired embellishments. I added some pretty Prima flowers that I sprayed with Glimmer Mist to add some sparkle and shine.

Hope you enjoyed this project. It's one of my favorites and I can't wait to make some more. Hmmmm...... wouldn't this technique also be cool on top of a wooden box?
